Red, green, pink – one is spoiled for choice today when it comes to cuckoo clocks. Flashy coloured deer antlers or a dove of peace sitting on top of modern cuckoo clocks’ roofs. Of course at every half and full hour the cuckoo’s call can still be heard. The typical pendulums and weights are still there also. Since 2005 a company located in Schonach manufactures modern cuckoo clocks which they are successfully selling to different countries as America, China, Australia, Japan, Singapore and Russia.
How was the original clock?
Cuckoo clocks are manufactured in the Black Forest since 1738. At those days cuckoo clocks were nicely painted with ornaments of flowers and other designs. Over a century later, in 1850, wood carved clocks were manufactured in the railway house style which achieved worldwide fame. Special about the clock is its pendulum work and chain mechanism. The cuckoo’s call is traditionally generated by a pair of organ pipe differently in tone.
