Typical Bürgel ceramics are designed with white points on dark-blue or medium blue background and produced in the pottery town of Bürgel, where production is still handmade on potter‘s wheels. Innovations like high temperature kilns of 1150 degrees make it possible that the dishes are suitable for dishwasher and microwave.
Thuringia is the country of porcelain: along the Thuringian porcelain road numerous museums and places exhibit, produce or sell porcelain. Other ceramic products made in Bürgel are also quite well known. Bürgel is situated in the Thuringian Saale valley between Jena and Eisenberg. Potter‘s trade is done since the 15th century. In the 17th century Bürgel even received the epithet „Pottery town“.
