The little brownies of Mainz are originally called Mainzelmännchen because they were invented over 50 years ago by Germany‘s second state television channel ZDF, which is situated in Mainz. This made these small men part of the history of German television.
These cute kobolds that all have their own names and characters still amuse viewers at commercial breaks. Graphic artist Wolf Gerlach created these sweet figures which live on our TV screens since 1967 also in colour.
They’ve changed little over the decades, although today they have notebooks and mobile phones too. The brownies of Mainz are popular objects for collectors and a whole range of products is available now.
