Germans always drink beer? Some common place notions simply are not true. Germany boasts wonderful wines and lots of people prefer wine to beer. But also cidre has its fans, especially in and around Frankfurt in Hessen. Here cidre is served in a typical sort of beaker called “bembel”, fashioned from a rather crude form of earthenware stemming from the Westerwald. Nobody is sure about the meaning of “bembel”, but we know the word was first written down in 1893. Whatever meaning or origin: The “bembel” is our fan product of the month of November, a nice souvenir for your own mantelpiece or as well as a present to your beloved ones. One thing is for sure: the bembel is a typical German thing.
