Saxony - glorious history, trade and economy, culture and spirit
Semperoper, book fair, wonderful Meissen porcelain - Saxony with its historically significant towns, more than 1,000 gorgeous buildings and wonderful scenery inspires every year thousands of visitors.
The Free State of Saxony has one of the most varied and splendid cultural landscapes in Europe. Did you know that there are nearly 1000 castles, fortresses, palaces, pleasure gardens and manor houses dating back to all epochs? One can experience Middle Ages as well as the latest past.
Not only in Dresden and along river Elbe, but also in Saxon Switzerland, in the mountain region Erzgebirge and in wine country you can see numerous of these magnificent past time monuments. August the Strong did build palaces and splendid gardens here and thus influenced the architectural style until the 19th century.
Traces of August the Strong
Travel back in time to old royal days which distinguish themselves by (August the Strong once wrote:) „…splendid old and new buildings perfectly built by expert hand to the adornment of the ruler and his country as well as to the use and joy of its people …“ (from: The Nicest Castles of Saxony, Castles and Gardens, publishers: Saxon castle management, 1996)
