Bavaria – Germany’s most popular destination
Extending from river Main unto the Alps, Bavaria is the largest federal state in terms of surface. Bavaria’s independent culture, good solid meals and great variety of beer are reason for tourists from all around the world to visits Bavaria all around the year. Besides Munich itself, the beer festival „Oktoberfest“ and the Alps are preferred destinations. Mountains and lakes, baroque flair and traditions, all within the atmosphere of a big city– Bavaria fulfils every visitor's dreams.
Be enchanted by Bavaria’s world famous places of interest. The Oktoberfest in Bavaria’s capital Munich attracted 2013 6.9 million international visitors. But also numerous museums and excellent cultural events make a trip to Munich worthwhile. Famous is also the castle of Neuschwanstein, a symbol of romantic longings, the church Wieskirche, the Limes, but also other cities as Würzburg, Bamberg and Regensburg which all have excellently preserved old towns.
Highlights of a trip to Germany are events like the festival days in Bayreuth, the Oberammergau Passionsspiele and the Christmas fair in Nuremberg. Let it be village and national costumes parties or highbrow opera performances, there are numerous events that make Bavaria unforgettable.
The region south of the Danube is called Bavarian Land of Golf & Hot Springs and offers a great number of hotels and spas. Around the hot springs, which can be as warm as 70 degrees centigrade, so called „lower Bavarian thermal bath triangle“ with its cities of Birnbach, Bad Griesbach and Bad Füssing has developed.
Finally, lovers of nature will also find perfect activities in Bavaria: Whether sunny vineyards in Franconia, mild low mountain ranges or deeply fissured Alps, routes like the Romantic Street, Burgenstrasse or German Alpenstrasse, they all are perfect places for activities in nature.
Providing the federal state with an annual income of 31 billion Euros and 84 million overnight stays in 2012 tourism is an important economic factor in Bavaria. Almost every fourth accommodation in Germany is located in Bavaria. One fifth of Germany’s touristic income derives from Bavaria. Favoured destinations are the Bavarian lakes as well as the Alps and of course the cities of Munich and Augsburg, but also the cities of Bamberg, Wurzburg and Regensburg, listed as UNESCO world cultural heritage.
