Romantic Rhine at its best
The accredited tourist resort Bacharach has only some 2,000 inhabitants and is located in the administrative district of Mainz-Bingen in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
Situated in the UNESCO world heritage of the upper middle Rhine Valley, Bacharach has a fascinatingly romantic Rhine surrounding.
Victor Hugo was enthusiastic about the picturesque town‘s city walls, military walks and towers of which the most are still today intact.
Bacharach has a wonderful Old Town with small alleys and marvellous timber-framed buildings. The „Old House“ is one of them. It was the favoured bar of composer Robert Stolz. Being built on a mountain, the castle Stahleck is today one of Europe’s most magnificent youth hostels and one of Bacharach’s very popular attractions.
