Experience the charme of the fin de siècle.
The capital of Hessen with its elegant ambience is a treat for 280,000 inhabitants as well as for visitors and businessmen. Flawlessly preserved and restored representative buildings of past centuries dominate the cityscape. The Health Resort Centre, the State Theatre, but also magnificent boulevards in the centre of the city bear witness to the atmosphere and luxury of past times. During the 19th century Wiesbaden was a Spa centre known worldwide. Today it is seat of Hessian Landtag (state parliament) and a town of ministries.
A walking tour through Wiesbaden leads for example from Schlossplatz (Palace Square) where the old and new city hall are located, to the church “Marktkirche” and the former town palace of the Dukes of Nassau, which today serves as seat of Hessian Landtag. The tour will then continue over Wilhelmstraße or take you through the Kurpark and the Kurhaus (Spa centre).
Neroberg is a wonderful destination. The town’s mountain is quite comfortably reachable by Neroberg railway, a water-driven funicular railway, which moves at about 7 kilometres per hour. Already from far away the Russian-orthodox chapel with five gilt domes is visible. It’s quite a jewel! In the centre is a small rotunda with columns presenting a really breathtaking view at the town. In the lower part of the park a viewpoint terrace is flanked by two lions made of stone. From here a marvellous view takes your eyes over vineyards, villas in the Nerotal valley, the town and as far as to the region Rheinhessen.
Wiesbaden is known for its health supporting thermal springs since Roman times. The health resort of Wiesbaden attracts guests from all over the world with a casino and hotels of all categories. But also trade fairs and events are among the main reasons why international visitors come to Wiesbaden. About 12,000 enterprises, from craftsmanship to big groups, have their headquarters in Wiesbaden.
