Bavaria’s national park has the biggest coherent surface of forest in Central Europe.
The national park „Bavarian Forest“ was opened in 1970 and has a surface of 24.218 hectares. As a kind of primeval forest the aim is to preserve it in its natural form for following generations. Thus the aim has become its motto: "Let nature be nature". Here you still can experience extreme and mysterious loneliness like in Grimm's fairy tales.
Over 40 years have passed now and it is still untouched. That has an amusing effect on visitors. Here nature determines how woods develop. Here you still can follow the tracks of wind and snow, beetles and wild animals like lynx, wolf or red deer. A nearly impenetrable wilderness has originated, which is more than fascinating.
Discover this world which, together with the Bohemian Forest, forms the biggest coherent forest surface in Central Europe. You can climb to the summits of mount Falkenstein (1.305 m) or Großen Rachel (1.453 m) and take a view of high-level moors.
The national park attracts yearly over 700,000 visitors and is thus an important economic growth factor for the Bavarian Forest.
