One of the most attractive spas in Germany
The health resort and major county town of Bad Kreuznach has nearly 44,000 inhabitants and is situated in the administrative district of Bad Kreuznach in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Bad Kreuznach is supply centre for the region as well as seat of the Palatinate Chamber of Agriculture. The town received city rights in AD 1290.
Bad Kreuznach is embedded among the low mountain range of the Hunsrück, the hills of Rhenish Hessian and the northern Rhineland Mountains. Through the city flows the river Nahe, which together with an historical bridge and some bridge houses that all were built during the 15th century, comprises the landmark of Bad Kreuznach. The bridge used to connection the city to the former “new city”, which today is the Old Town quarter. Old marketplaces, romantic half-timbered houses, narrow lanes and the picturesque quarter called „Small Venice“ make the Old Town even more worth seeing.
The city is an ideal starting point to explore on a hike or bike the winegrowing area around the river Nahe. As one of the loveliest health and seaside resorts in Germany, Bad Kreuznach stands also for well-being and relaxation. The city‘s elegant health resort area with extensive parks also accomodates one of Germany’s biggest wellness and sauna facilities. The salt work valley with 9 metre high and 1,1 km long thorn houses that line up in a row, is the biggest open air inhalation centre in Europe and open to everyone.
The administrative district of Bad Kreuznach comprises of approx. 157,000 inhabitants and 119 municipalities. It is situated in the centre of the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate and part of the wine-growing area Nahe. Seat of administration is the city of Bad Kreuznach.
Its landscape is characterized by varying elevations of woods, fields, meadows and rock formations. The river Nahe runs through the county from west to east. In the east the administrative district extends till the hill lands of Rhenish Hessian, whilst in the south it ends at the mountainous country of the Nordpfalz. In the west and north it extends till the peaks of the Lützelsoons and the Soon woods of the Hunsrück. Highest peak is Ellerspring with 658 m.
The administrative district of Bad Kreuznach is an important spa and relaxation area that is rich in cultural monuments and also offers 1,6 km of bicycle trails and 1,5 km of hiking trails.
