Hesse / Rhein-Main Region / Frankfurt"Der Struwwelpeter" is one of the most successful German children books
In the middle of Frankfurt’s part Westend the world of Struwwelpeter and his author is alive again. The amusing 19th century personality of Heinrich Hoffmann attained worldwide fame by Struwwelpeter. First published in 1845 this classical children book had an astonishing history which is documented by rare original editions as for example an edition with an extremely "long haired" title figure of 1860. Exotic editions in Afrikaans, Chinese or Rhaeto-Romanic testify to the worldwide success. Until today Struwwelpeter has been translated into over 35 languages. However this book has critics as well: This controversy about one of the most discussed children's books in the world is also subject of the exhibition. Struwwelpeter Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from ten to 17 o'clock. Entrance fee is four Euros, children between the age of 7 and 13 years pay 1 Euro, children younger than 7 are free.
