The oldest university in Germany

Ruprecht Karl University in Heidelberg is a research university of international range. The university focuses on responsibility towards people, society and nature as well as freedom in research and study. Scientific subjects of the university range from arts, social sciences and law to natural and life sciences including medicine.

The oldest university in Germany was founded in 1386. Nowadays, 31,000 students are enrolled in 12 faculties. More than 5,000 scientists, among them 420 professors, research and teach in this university. About 20 percent of the students come from abroad to study at Heidelberg University. Freedom of research and lessons as well as responsibility towards man, society and nature are the credo of this university.

Nobel award winners and famous scientists like for example Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Robert Bunsen, Hermann von Helmholtz, and Max Weber, did their studies in Heidelberg or taught and did research at the university. Heidelberg´s Ruprecht Karls University still is leading in the fields of medicine, biology, chemistry and mathematics.
