Dozens of lakes

Neustrelitz is a provincial town in the administrative district of the Mecklenburg Lake District and lies at the Zierker Lake in the south of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania. Until 1918 Neustrelitz was a seat of dukes.

Within the town area are 29 big and small lakes. The former Ducal Castle unfortunately burnt down in 1945. However, the Castle Garden and Castle Church are still intact. Don’t miss taking a walk through the baroque town and its big market square. Parts of the historical Old Town have been redeveloped since 1991, as has been the classicistic Orangery on the edge of the Castle Garden. Today the Orangery accommodates a concert hall and a restaurant.

The harbour at Lake Zierker has 29 berths and a landing stage for tour boats. Thanks to its good connection to the canal of Kammer and the upper Havel's waterway Neustrelitz is a popular destination for fans of water sports.

Nearby lies the national park Müritz that attracts with its wonderful nature for excursions into the surroundings.

Events

At the last weekend in May the Immergut Festival is staged. On this occasion, operettas and theatre plays are performed in the castle garden.
