Demmin
Town within the "Three river country"

Demmin is a Hanseatic town in the northeast of Germany within the “three river country” between the rivers Peene, Tollense and Trebel.

Already from far away you can see the St. Bartholomaei tower standing out in the centre of town with a height of 95.8 metres. A total of three naves and aisles make the neo-gothic church a noteworthy construction.

In the Hanse quarter of the town old craft technologies like fishing, baking bread, pottering and basket making are still in use.

Embedded in regional attractive surroundings the town is particularly favoured by lovers of nature. Demmin lies next to Germany’s greatest coherent low moor area where many botanical species eventually soon to be extinct, have their home. In the stretches of water in and around Demmin a total of 35 fish species romp about. Here you can even watch rare animals like beaver, otter and sea eagle.

Fun and rest offers the nature adventure pool Biberburg.

Events

The Peenefest is a public festival which annually takes place at the weekend after Pentecost. During summer concerts are staged in St. Bartolomaei church. At the end of the year it‘s of course also in Demmin time for a wonderful Christmas fair.
