Rottenburg
Cathedral city of significant history

In the city centre raises the tower of St. Martin’s cathedral to testify to times when the city next to river Neckar was still a bishop's seat. Construction of the arched basilica started in 1424. The bell tower was finished in 1491. The cathedral is far more modestly equipped than the baroque Weggental church at the outskirts of Rottenburg. The church which’s nave and side aisles are of equal height was constructed in 1695 and is admirably decorated. During Christmas time this church is a favoured attraction.

Tracing Romans

To lovers of Roman history Rottenburg has to offer lots of remains of at Roman times so called city "Sumelocenna". An original part of this antique city is displayed at the museum Sumelocenna. Most impressive part of the building is a 32 metre long toilet facility whose formerly luxurious furnishing can still be recognised. Reconstructions, models, graphics and a lot of antique findings dated back to Roman times are exhibited at the museum. A diorama with 650 tin figures impressively illustrates to younger visitors how Romans lived.

Shopping and enjoying

A walk through the town leads you over bridges to the Neckar shore, past churches and half-timbered houses, to a pedestrian zone with many shops, past military pile works and small alleys with idyllic places. Enjoy having a cappuccino in a small provincial town with Italian flair at the Neckar’s shore.
