Mecklenburg ‘Switzerland’
Mecklenburg ‘Switzerland’
Lush green gentle hills and old trees.

There are only a few regions in Germany that can be compared to the landscape of Switzerland. One of them is the Mecklenburg nature reserve with its gentle green hills. Situated in the centre of this federal state it is not without reason called Mecklenburg Switzerland.

The typical man-made landscape is characterized by numerous castles, estates and parks. The nature reserve of 61,600 hectares was founded in 1997. Here, lovers of nature can use observation towers, a nature adventure trail and a labelled road net. Four rangers watch over nature and scenery, but are also more than happy to help visitors and inhabitants. Furthermore, they lead public guided tours and nature-related events for children and adolescents. Of course they are also active in the field of conservation of nature.

Ancient oaks and a rare wildlife make this region very special, where eagles, cranes and wild geese still nest and the rivers are home to otters and beavers.
