Around four million people live in the metropolitan region of Hannover, Braunschweig, Göttingen and Wolfsburg. It is of superregional significance for international commerce, because it is headquarters to many internationally active companies as well as important fairs.

Economic strength, an abundance of scientific institutions and its location at an important European traffic axis make this region around the cities of Hannover, Braunschweig, Göttingen and Wolfsburg a metropolitan region of European significance. Big, middle and small towns, rural areas and high mountains: This area stretches from Nienburg (Weser) in the north to the Hessian federal state border and the Harz.

The Metropolregion Ltd. presents itself with new energy to the mobile world. As the first metropolis region in Germany, it pursues the aim to meet the complete demand of electricity, heating and traffic by renewable energy sources. The railway section between Hamburg and Kassel was turned into ART RAIL, and Antenne Métropole belongs to the network of Institut Français in Germany. The model plan of the cooperation of town and country fits in this plan to use 100% renewable energy only. The Metropolregion offers a platform for national and international fairs and runs the online portal www.metropolregion.de.
