Besides France and the USA, Germany is the third biggest Pinot Noir producer worldwide. In a recent FT.com publication Jancis Robinson stresses German enthusiasm for their Spätburgunder, as Pinot Noir is known in Germany. However, she wonders why we don’t see huge quantities on export markets yet.

 

The renowned wine expert seizes every opportunity to taste German Pinot Noir. "The average quality has risen enormously over the past five to 10 years", Jancis Robinson states in the Ft.com article (read full text).

Since burgundy prices are now very high, alternatives to red burgundy like German Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) have become increasingly attractive in the authors point of view.
