Many things to discover!

From family theme days to themed trails, family-friendly cycle paths and experiences in and around nature: There is so much for families to discover in the Black Forest that there is no risk of getting bored on holiday here! Two Black Forest theme days are aimed at families this summer:

On 26th June, the Europa Park in Rust is holding its annual "Black Forest Family Day". Tourist information centres and partners from the holiday region in the southwest will be on hand to provide information about special family offers. One special highlight is the "costume parade" in the afternoon. Over 1,000 people of all ages will walk through the park in traditional dress, accompanied by bands playing music.

The second family theme day is on 9th July, and is hosted by Schwarzwald Tourismus, SC Freiburg and the Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus. Visitors can look forward to a diverse programme of activities at the brewery in Grafenhausen-Rothaus, with brewery tours, the Zäpfle theme trail and a chance to get the autographs of footballers from SC Freiburg. A bus shuttle service will run between Seebrugg train station and the festival grounds. Rothaus is celebrating a double anniversary this year: 225 years of the "Rothaus" beer and 60 years of the "Tannenzäpfle" beer.

Skill, stamina and an inquisitive nature are required for the themed walks and trails. They entice you with woodland spirits, imps and pixies, and on warm days offer a chance to cool down in the becks and lakes, or in the shaded woodland.

Those who prefer to cycle: Numerous family-friendly cycle paths run through the Black Forest, away from busy roads, and can be conveniently combined with public transport. The "Family Cycle Paths" (Familienradwege) flyer, which is produced by Schwarzwald Tourismus, recommends tours which incorporate public transport to the top of hills and mountains and then a nice gentle ride down the hill on the bike. If youngsters become tired during the ride, the tours can be easily cut short with a bus or train.

There are lots of other challenges for young adventurers and discoverers in the Black Forest: The "Family Experience Map" (Familien-Erlebniskarte) from Schwarzwald Tourismus is a great planning aid for this. It lists family-friendly attractions, accommodation and partners from "familien-ferien" (family holiday) Baden-Württemberg.

A tip for the thrifty: the SchwarzwaldCard. The card can be purchased to provide free entry and discounts at around 140 attractions on any three days of your choice. Around 50 bonus partners also offer discounts on other days. The new "SchwarzwaldCard" pull-out map also helps with the planning.
